OUR LEADERSHIP

Curtis Warfield, CPA, is the CEO of HCA Inc.’s National Patient Account Services (NPAS). NPAS is the largest healthcare business processing outsourcing firm in the industry with over 6 billion dollars under management. His responsibilities include directing any start-up activities and on-going operational development enhancements of supporting financial systems, processes and infrastructure. Curtis has an extensive background in operations management, financial modeling, budgeting, accounting, strategic planning, competitive analysis and information technology. Prior to his current role, he held numerous strategic positions for Fortune 500 healthcare companies such as Humana and PacifiCare.




Garett Jackson started with NPAS in 2001 as Controller and was promoted to Chief Financial Officer in 2003. Garett is responsible for client reporting, communications, accounting and budgeting, strategic planning, decision support and developing return on investment models for key operational initiatives. He previously served in public accounting with Carpenter, Mountjoy and Bressler, a major CPA firm in the region. He is an active member of the Kentucky Society of CPAs and serves on the Technology Committee. He is a member of HFMA, as well as being an active member of the Customer Contact Center Network and the Health Enterprise Network in Louisville Kentucky. Garett is a founding Fellow of the Greater Louisville Health Enterprises Network Leadership Program. He is a graduate of Bellarmine University where he received his undergraduate degree in Accounting, with a minor in Business Administration while playing on the varsity soccer team.




Joe Shutts, Chief Operating Officer of HCA’s National Patient Account Services (NPAS), has been in the Healthcare industry for over 30 years. He has held positions in various areas on the provider side of the business including hospitals, corporate office, and his current position with NPAS. He has been a CFO of a sole community hospital, as well as various management positions within the corporate environment including areas of patient and general accounting, business office policy and procedures, and systems design for HCA. He has been the COO for over 10 years with NPAS. He is a graduate of the University of Louisville School of Business. He is a member of HFMA, as well being an active member of the Customer Contact Center Network and the Health Enterprise Network in Louisville Kentucky.




Debra Machos is Chief Operating Officer of NPAS Texas and has been with NPAS for four years. Debra’s primary responsibilities include all aspects of Texas office operations as well as planning and execution of the NPAS strategy and performance improvement process. Prior to joining NPAS, Debra held positions in hospital finance and administration as well as in healthcare management consulting. Debra earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and a Master of Business Administration degree from LeTourneau University.




Charlie Schuhmann has been in healthcare more than 24 years and has been with NPAS since March of 2000. Charlie became the first Director of Client Services when he started at NPAS and played a pivotal role in helping NPAS begin a focused effort to improve the quality of service delivered to the patients whose accounts were being collected. Customer Satisfaction scores have climbed each year since NPAS began surveys in 2002. He now serves in his current capacity of introducing NPAS’ excellent service to the rest of the healthcare community so they all can access the benefits HCA hospitals have enjoyed for years. Prior to joining NPAS, Charlie was President of the Louisville Division of Lexon Medical Inc., a national full-service billing company for physicians. He also served 3 years as Director of National Accounts with Data Advantage Corporation, a major Louisville-based provider of benchmark data and physician profiling for acute care hospitals all over the country. Charlie is a graduate of Bellarmine University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. He is a member of HFMA, as well as being an active member of the Customer Contact Center Network and the Health Enterprise Network in Louisville Kentucky.




Sherri Harbsmeier is the Regional Director of Human Resources for National Patient Account Services for the Louisville, KY and Bedford, TX locations. She has worked in Healthcare for seventeen years. Sherri received her Bachelors Degree from the University of Louisville in Human Resources. She is a member of the Louisville and National Society for Human Resource Management Association, the University of Louisville Alumni Business School Board, the Contact Call Center Human Capital Committee for Greater Louisville Inc., appointed member of Empire Who’s Who Among Executive and Professional Women and holds the Senior Professional Human Resources designation by the National Society of Human Resources Management since 2002. 




Jonathan Newton is the National Director of Client Support & Marketing for National Patient Account Services. Jonathan is responsible for NPAS’s Client Support Manager’s who maintain and grow the company’s relationships with both HCA and external clients. He is also responsible for NPAS’s national marketing campaigns, developing and implementing strategies to expand our services to more external clients. Jonathan received his Bachelors Degree from The University of Kentucky in Finance. He is a member of HFMA, as well as a member in the Customer Contact Center and the Health Enterprise Network in Louisville, Kentucky. Jonathan started his professional career as a financial advisor in a joint venture between a large southeast regional investment firm and a regional bank in Western Kentucky. Over the last 15 years, he has been in the pharmaceutical industry gaining valuable experience in sales, management, contracting and marketing with Bayer and Merck.
